No doubt I lost half of you at “folk singer”—and too bad for you. Another third linger still on, “ate the what?!”. I’ll wait here, ahead of the next full stop, whilst you catch your collective breath. Stick with me, because you’re in for treat.
As you’ll discover in the videos below, as well as in numerous other videos you’ll try to sneak like chocolate, Daniele is both an enigma and a treasure. Her songwriting is spare and poignant, her voice both powerful and ethereal. She is a poet possessed, young enough to hurl barbs at Twitter and wise enough to know (and harness) its power.
Although her cyber-fingerprints give you a flavor, it’s only at a live performance that you really can get the subtleties that round out the palette of Daniele Ate the Sandwich. From the moment she walks on stage with her friend (and straight man) Dennis, she eases you into waves of soft belly laughter—and then she begins to sing. Enigma. Here, at the end of the Mayan Long Count calendar, this sweet young woman takes her audience in her hand and shows them that the absurd and the profound are not at all like oil and water. In fact, her presentation of “First Taste” in the video above is a perfect example of her enigmatic genius— absorb the intro and then listen to the lyrics. No, really!!
Daniele plans on producing another studio album this year, and has already demonstrated some serious entrepreneurial muscle by crowd-funding the production cost via her campaign on Kickstarter.com. Actually, by calling on her dedicated fan base, she hit the sucker out the park, more than doubling her $6,000 goal with several days to go. Record company deal? What the heck for?!!
