Sadie, my dear old girl, you are slowing down so much. It is really hard to see – especially since I know your heart and head are still in it, as befits a good border collie. You’re game for anything.
I still remember the beautiful Spring day I found you; the day I sat on an Eastern Colorado farm surrounded by chicken wire and a gorgeous litter of border collie puppies. Your big, naughty brother was tugging on my pant leg and growling like a wolf, a fierce little man. Some of your other siblings were silly, rolling over one another and wrestling on the grass. One of your little sisters – the red head, had an accident that tore the pad from the bottom of her front paw – they said I could have her for a discount.
There you were, quietly collected and watching me with the sweet, engaged, quizzical look that I still see on your face every day! When I sat down on the ground we made eye contact. You came over and calmly climbed into my lap. You circled three times and settled in there for the duration. I wrote Farmer Green the check right then!
The entire journey home you slept in my lap – on your back – with that freckled pink belly up. You were so relaxed I thought maybe you’d died – for you never stirred. Every day since that one I thank our lucky stars that we found each other! For we are kindred indeed!
You are your Dad’s first dog ever. He met you when you were eight years old. I think he thought all dogs came just like you. It only took a few weeks with Benj to show him how far from the truth that was! Regardless, he’s been clearly smitten since that first night!
I’m not being maudlin, little treasure, I just want you to know that every day of the last 13 years, you, with your good sense of humor and sweet nature have been perfect! (Well except for the first night you met your Dad. Remember how you nipped him in the head to teach him about having a little dignity!) Figures from a cat guy, right?
So after you’re finished re-wiring the house, and surfing the web (I KNOW you read Find MoMo everyday, and my computer history shows that you check this out too almost every day!!) – if you wind up here on our blog…I just want you to know – I love the heck out of you Peanut!!
